About

What AI First Principles is, how it was built, and who it is for.

What is AI First Principles?

AI First Principles is an open-source framework of 12 principles for organizations and teams responsible for operationalizing AI. It exists to address a gap: most AI governance frameworks focus on policy and compliance, but the people actually building and deploying AI systems inside organizations needed something practical, something they could use day to day.

The principles are not rules. They are ways of seeing, grounded in lived organizational experience.

How it was built

The principles were developed and validated by a community of AI thought leaders, practitioners, researchers, and designers across industries. Contributors include people from organizations such as NVIDIA, Google, Meta, Slack, ServiceNow, Adobe, and Harvard Business School. The framework reflects collective experience, not a single point of view.
